Why We Built This

Getting a passport photo shouldn't cost $15 and require a trip to a pharmacy. Existing online tools either charge for downloads, add visible watermarks, upload your photo to their servers (a serious privacy risk), or produce images that don't meet official specifications.

We built freepassportsizephoto.com to fix all of that. Every feature — AI background removal, face auto-crop, ICAO compliance guides, calibration ruler, and print sheet generator — runs directly in your browser using modern web technologies like WebAssembly and the Canvas API.

How It Works

When you upload a photo, our tool:

1. Detects your face using MediaPipe's on-device machine learning model — no cloud API call.
2. Removes the background using the @imgly/background-removal WASM model — runs at full resolution in seconds.
3. Auto-configures the output to match your selected country's official passport photo specification.
4. Overlays ICAO compliance guides so you can see at a glance whether your head placement meets the biometric standard.
5. Lets you download a single photo or a full print sheet for any photo lab — at full resolution, no watermarks.

Our Commitment

We are committed to keeping this tool free, private, and accurate. We will never charge for downloads, add watermarks, or upload your images to a server. The service is funded by non-intrusive display advertising only.
